Precautions
While Wearing Rudraksha |
 |
Rudraksha can be worn
at all times. Some books say that Rudraksha should be
taken off during sex, menstrual cycles, during visit to
funeral grounds and during bowel movements. Also it is
advisable to take off beads while taking bath as excess
soap dehydrates the beads of the natural oil. They need
to be worn with faith, respect and love. |
 |
Life of Rudraksha could
be any number of years. If it is well protected, it can
be passed on from generation to generation. |
 |
Rudraksha may be worn
by those who consume alcohol and non-veg too but has to
be kept aside while consuming these items. |
 |
Mala that we wear in neck
can be made up of 54 or 108 beads. Japa mala could be
as small as 27 beads. Do not use neck mala as Japa mala
or vice versa because purpose of each is different. |

Taking
Care |
 |
Clean your mala / beads
when you feel they require cleaning after regular usage.
Dip in luke warm water. Add liquid soap. Keep for few
hours and then brush with a plastic brush to clean the
dirt and grime that fixes in the pores of the beads. Then
leave the beads to dry for several hours, and then apply
some oil on the beads by using a brush. Sandal wood oil
is best mixed with light Olive oil. Oiling can be repeated
whenever the beads seem dry. |
 |
If Rudraksha is worn during
bath, then it is recommended to keep it away from soap,
as excess soap spoils the bead and penetrates or sticks
to it. Water is good for the beads. If it is not worn
during bath, the mala may be washed in normal clean water,
during prayers. |
